When playing online backgammon for real money on Play65 backgammon site, a rake, a small percentage of the final sum, is collected from the winning player (on the behalf of both players). The amount of the rake is determined by several factors: the size of the initial stake, the type of game played (single or series of games) and the game room. Continue reading to learn how Play65 rakes are calculated
In a single game (money game) played on up to $50, the rake collected from the winning player is 4.9% from the final sum. For example, when the final sum is $10, the losing player transmits the entire sum to Play65. Play65 first multiplies 4.9% with 2 ($0.49X2=$0.98) and then deducts the outcome from the final sum and transmits to the winner the winning sum minus the rake ($9.02 in our example).
As the initial stake grows bigger, Play65 rake becomes smaller: in a $50-$100 money game the rake decreases to 3.9%, while in a game played on more than $100, the rake shrinks further to 2.9%.
In a backgammon match, i.e. series of games, the rake collected from a game played on up to $50 is 4.9% plus 0.5% from every additional point. As in Play65 rake in a single game, both players' rakes are deducted from the winning player's final sum. Since the 0.5% rake added to every game played on 2 points or more, Play65 limits the maximum rake to 8.9%.
When the match is played on between $50 and $100 the rake is 4.4% (plus 0.5% on every additional point), while the maximum rake goes down to 8.9%. When the match is played on over $100, the rake is only 3.4% for a 1-point game, 3.9% for 2-points game and so on, while the maximum commission is 7.9%.
To promote fair play and to protect the small fish from the big sharks, Play65 rakes rise as the gap between the two opponents skill level (as expressed by their rating points) deepens. So, the attempt to compete against a player with 100-199 rating points difference will cost both players an increase of 50% in their rake, if the difference is higher than 200 points, the rake will be 100% higher, and so on.
In Play65 Giants Room, where entrance is permitted only to players who have more than 1800 points on Play65 rating system, the rakes are lower than usual: the maximum commission is $20 and the giants enjoy a special 10% discount on every game played on up to $50 and a 15% on games played on more than $50. And when the game is played on more than $200, the rake shrinks even further to 2.45%.
In Play65 Dark Room, where players play incognito, the players rating points are meaningless and so are the commissions related to the players' skill levels. Stumbling in the Dark Room costs a 5.9% rake on a game played on less than $50, 4.9% on a game played on less than $100 and only 3.9% on a $100 and over online backgammon game.
